Choral Music at All Hallows

  •  At All Hallows Church we have an enthusiastic and growing adult choir, currently numbering 16 members, who sing at the 9.30am Parish Eucharist  every Sunday, at the monthly service of Evensong and on other occasions during the year. We also have approximately 12 members of our ‘Augmented Choir’ who join us for Choral Evensong and other special occasions.

  • We rehearse in church every Friday evening (except August) from 7.15 pm to 8.45 pm - meeting in the Choir Vestry at 7 pm for tea and biscuits ( and occasionally doughnuts!). On those Sundays when we are singing Choral Evensong we usually rehearse from 4.30 pm stopping at about 5.50 pm for tea before the service at 6.30 pm.

  • We are (even if we say so ourselves) a very friendly group and we enjoy rehearsals as much as possible, while aiming to reach the highest possible standards with our singing. We offer a warm welcome to any new singers who would like to join us.

  •  At the 9.30 Eucharist the choir usually sing an anthem during the communion as well as leading the congregation in the sung parts of the communion service and five (usually) traditional hymns. For the communion service we use the traditional (1662) words for the sung parts (Gloria, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei), often sung to a ‘congregational ‘ setting (e.g. Martin Shaw’s ‘Anglican Folk Mass’); on other occasions the choir sing a choral setting.  (link to music list)

  •  The monthly service of evensong is often a fully choral service, with an introit, anthem and choral settings of the responses and canticles (during Advent and Lent, plainsong canticles and psalms are used, together with ferial or plainsong responses). On certain occasions during the year, the service of Benediction is combined with evensong.

The music for Sung Eucharist and Evensongs for 2006 is displayed on these pages.

We are always keen to welcome new singers who would like to join us, either on a regular or occasional basis.  If you would like to know more, please contact Philip Booth (Director of Music)  on 0208 560 3638 or by e-mail:  philipbooth1@btinternet.com
